Located in a historic 19th-century brick-and-timber warehouse in Minneapolis’ North Loop neighborhood, The Bachelor Farmer celebrates Nordic-inspired cuisine made with ingredients sourced from local farmers or grown on the rooftop garden. They created small masterpieces on top of a humble piece of toast before it became a culinary craze, so order a few toasts as an appetizer for the table—I can’t resist the housemade bread with paddlefish caviar and crème fraîche. For the main event, try the duck confit with purple turnips, roasted carrots and pickled mustard greens, or the ever popular pork meatballs with lingonberry jam. On Sundays, the restaurant opens a little earlier for a more casual three-course, family-style Sunday Supper—at $36 it’s a bargain. If you’re in the neighborhood for breakfast or lunch, pop into the adjacent cafe for a scratch-made croissant or a pressed sandwich stuffed with brisket, preserved green onion and cheese.
